Policy

What stays on your device

Everything you do to learn is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

• Which terms you've seen, learned, or mastered, and your spaced-repetition schedule
• Your streak, daily goal, and placement level
• Your settings (notification time, haptics, goal size, etc.)
• Your in-app search queries (search runs entirely on your device)

If you delete the app, this data is removed with it.

What we collect (anonymous)

We use two third-party services to keep the app working well. Both are configured for anonymous, no-personal-data use.

1Product analytics — PostHog

We collect anonymous usage events so we can understand how the app is used and what to improve. Examples: that a card was viewed, that a daily goal was met, that a widget or notification was tapped, or that a quiz answer was right or wrong. These events include:

• A randomly generated install identifier (a random ID created on your device, not your name, Apple ID, or advertising identifier). Reinstalling the app creates a new, unrelated ID.
• Basic, non-identifying technical context such as app version and device type (e.g. "Mobile") and screen size.
• The content involved (e.g. a command's curriculum id) — this is app content, not information about you.

We do not attach your name, email, contacts, precise location, or any free-text you type to these events.

2Crash diagnostics — Sentry

If the app crashes, we collect a crash report (such as the error and where in the code it happened) so we can fix it. Crash reports are not used to identify you.

IP address — not collected

Analytics services normally record the network IP address of each request. We turn this off:

• The app sends every analytics event with no IP value ($ip: null), so PostHog does not store your IP.
• IP-based location lookup is disabled (disableGeoip), so no location is derived from network data.

As a result, we do not collect or store your IP address.

What we never collect

• Name, email address, phone number, or contacts
• Account credentials (there are no accounts)
• Precise or coarse location
• Photos or your photo library. The "share a card" feature can add an image to your Photos with your permission; the app cannot read your library.
• Browsing or search history (in-app search is local to your device)
• Health, financial, or message data

How we use the data we collect

We use anonymous analytics and crash data only to:

• Diagnose and fix bugs and crashes
• Understand which features are used so we can improve the learning experience
• Make product decisions (e.g. tune content difficulty)

We do not use it to build a profile of you, to advertise, or to sell to anyone.

Tracking and advertising

We do not track you in the sense defined by Apple's App Tracking Transparency: we do not link your data with third-party data for advertising or measurement, we show no ads, and we use no advertising identifiers. The app presents no App Tracking Transparency prompt because it does not track you.

Third-party services

The anonymous data above is processed by these providers on our behalf:

• PostHog (product analytics) — https://posthog.com/privacy
• Sentry (crash reporting) — https://sentry.io/privacy/

Both process data in the United States. We do not share data with any other third parties, and we do not sell or rent your data.

Data retention

Because we collect no personal identifiers, the data we hold is anonymous. Anonymous analytics and crash data are retained by our providers under their standard retention periods and used only in aggregate. Data stored on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the app.

Your choices and rights

• Stop all collection: uninstalling the app stops any further analytics and crash reporting.
• Notifications: you control reminders in the app's settings and in iOS Settings.
• Privacy rights (GDPR / CCPA and similar): you have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Because the app uses no accounts and collects no personal identifiers, we typically hold no information that can be tied to you. Children's privacy

Terms is rated 4+ and is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app collects no personal information from anyone. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will address it.

Security

Your learning data stays on your device. The limited anonymous data we collect is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and handled by reputable providers (PostHog, Sentry).

Changes to this policy

If we change what the app collects, we will update this policy and its effective date. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
